Position:  Manager of Referee Assigning & Training

Closing Date: Open until position filled, will review applications on May 31, 2024.

 

General Description: The Manager of referee assigning and training will be responsible for assigning referees to games in the Portland Metro market and providing support, training, and development to all referees around the state, while working with other state assignors to develop referees in their territories using various programming to achieve numerical, and qualitative growth in the state. This person will report to the Executive Director of OYSA.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Undergraduate level of conceptual thinking, organization or expression obtained by a college/university degree or equivalent life experience. Experience: Three (3) years’ experience in assigning a minimum of 40+ games per weekend. US Soccer Assignor cerfied. Officiating experience is a plus in any sport. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in wring. Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficiency in using established assigning software. Experience with RefTown a plus. Ability to manage mulptile tasks and priories and work independently. Knowledgeand experience in Affinity Soware is a plus. Bilingual candidates (Spanish) are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Job Dues:

1. Assign referees to youth soccer games across various age groups and levels of play within the Portland assigned area. Demonstrate respect and inclusion to all eligible referees.

2. Organize and conduct training sessions, workshops, and certification courses for new and existing referees. These will be in person and online, and in conjunction with other assignors across the state.

3. Grow the number of referees across the state at all ages and levels.

4. Provide regularly scheduled online/webinar support training for newer referees throughout the first two years of their career.

5. Work with other state assignors to create and implement referee development programs that align with the association’s goals.

6. Work with OSRO, Area Assignors and SOAR administration to determine a path for referee development, advancement, and training.

7. Serve as a liaison between the association, assignors, referees, and local soccer clubs to achieve association goals.

8. Manage referee schedules, availability, and communications efficiently. Maintain positive relationships with referees to achieve this.

9. Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during match assignments through the referee hotline.

10. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the laws of the game and ensure referees are informed of any changes based on the age, level, and tournament they are parcipang in.

11. Evaluate referee performance and provide constructive feedback to aid in their development.

12. Able to work within our schedule with the understanding that there will be weekend work occasionally.

13. This job descripon is not intended to be all-inclusive, and employee with also perform other reasonably related business dues as assigned by the Execuve Director.

 

The successful candidate will not referee in an OYSA league, except in emergencies. They may referee in sanctioned tournaments that they do not assign for, including high school and college.

This position is considered non-exempt from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements. Medical, vision and dental package paid for by employer for employee and immediate family.

IRA matching package available.

The annual salary for this posion is $53K.

The posion is a full-time, in-office position based in Beaverton, Oregon. Currently working with a hybrid-model of work for summer hours from Memorial Day – Labor Day. At a minimum this person would be in the office Tues/Wed/Thurs and remote Mon/Fri.
