Technical Director

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:    

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Technical Director is responsible for the educational development of clubs, coaches and players in the state of Oregon. Will provide direct support to the Oregon Youth Soccer Association’s member soccer clubs. This position’s goal will be to help develop soccer in Oregon through coaching education, technical aspects of club development, and player development.  Promotes and administers State and National coaching courses, as well as State coaching clinics. The Technical Director serves on the ODP committee and keeps apprised of ODP operational decisions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:        

EDUCATION:              

US Soccer National “A” coaching license, Minimum B with plan in place to complete the USSF A within a year of employment with the Association.  Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:             

Five years’ experience as a licensed soccer coach in a club, collegiate, professional and/or State/Regional/National institution (s). Five years’ experience organizing, implementing, and managing sports related non-profit organizations. Demonstrated administrative and organizational abilities to manage multiple programs and priorities, including event and long-range planning.  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally, virtually, in writing, and in person. Proficiency with a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office and Outlook. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Work directly with the Executive Director and OYSA staff in guiding the Association by helping develop Mission, Vision, Core Values, and Goals.
  2. Serves as a leader and resource to all Oregon clubs and club coaches on matters pertaining to coaching, player, and club development.
  3. Qualifies, hires, trains, and supervises coaching education staff coaches.
  4. Administers coaching courses according to US Soccer coaching curriculum and marketing strategies for State coaching licenses and other coaching education opportunities.
  5. Develops and supports Grassroots programming and education.
  6. Looks for opportunities to provide other educational opportunities for our members.
  7. Instructs and/or assigns educators to lead US Soccer licenses that can be presented by the Association.
  8. Evaluates and enhances the quality of play in games, assesses the clinical needs of coaches, and helps evaluate club coaches for readiness to upgrade Coaching licenses.
  9. Oversee the development of the leagues and cups from a technical standpoint.
  10. Serve on the Disciplinary Committee for the competitive leagues.
  11. Provides support to clubs and communities related to issues of soccer development. Areas include but not limited to player development, curriculum, methodology, player, and coach profiles, etc.
  12. Contacts each competitive club on a yearly basis to determine club needs, interest and ways in the Association can assist them. Provide information about clinics and other services available.
  13. Assists in the development of new soccer clubs in underserved areas of the state.
  14. Assists with the identification of club priorities, concerns and services provided by the Association.
  15. Helps with all facets of ODP and encouraged to coach in the program.
  16. Work in conjunction with US Youth Soccer to help guide the Northwest Conference and advocate for Oregon teams.

Salary based on the qualifications, education, and experience of the candidate.

This position is considered exempt from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements.
